Biography of LaRon Falslev

LaRon was born on October 8, 1928, a snowy day, to Oga and Sylvia Falslev in Benson. He is the third of 12 children, In his 93 years of life, he has had many accomplishments and achievements and touched many lives. LaRon attended school at Benson Elementary and North Cache.

Laron learned to work hard on the family farm. It was a time before the much of machinery we know today was invented and their work included working with horses. Summer and winter had many things to do. Summer harvest by the end of the pitch fork with loose hay, sugar beets to hoe and harvest, animals to care for. They had a lot of land. When his older brother Rulon left to the Merchant Marines, LaRon dropped out of High school to help his dad on the farm. He finally completed his High School requirements and got his diploma after he was 90.

LaRon married Doris Hansen on November 10, 1950, in the Logan LDS Temple. Three days later he joined the 4th infantry in the Army and spent the next 2 years in Germany. His wife Doris, went on a mission to the Eastern States. After his return in 1952, he was employed at Hill Air Force Base, then took a temporary job at the Physical Plant at USU where he retired after 38 years of service in 1995.

Bud Pitcher and long friend and coworker tells the story about his days at USU. One day they were trimming trees at the USU quad. They had a pile of limbs and a guy walks up and was interested in the branches. He asked if he could take some. Bud said sure, the more you take the less we have to haul away. The guy then asked what kind of trees were they. LaRon quickly replied with his quit wit. They are shade trees.

Living and starting his family in the Ballard Home in Benson and a house in the Island area of Logan. LaRon fancied buying a ranch in Montana. However, the "Izatt farm in Benson came up for sale in 1958. His dad, Oga, and him bought it. Laron took the north side of the road, while his dad took the south side. There he started building his operation. He raised beef, pigs, dairy, turkeys.

One day he went to North Logan and bought four weaner pigs from Mr. Robinson. He put the little pigs in a gunny sack and tied the top shut. Stopped in Smithfield at the Smithfield implement for something. Some lady came into the store asking if anyone had little pigs. They were running in the intersection on main. They were all caught and rebagged for the rest of the way home.

In the late 1960's he built a new dairy barn and increased his herd of two that he milked by hand to a herd to fill the bulk tank.

In his spare time, he bowled with the Merchant League for many years, enjoyed fishing and trips to Yellowstone, Canada, Montana, and Virginia. He was known for his garden and shared his harvest with friends and family nearby, in Idaho, and even along the Wasatch front. He maintained his witty sense of humor until the last day of his life.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many capacities. LaRon looked forward to his weekly temple attendance. He and Doris served three missions, first in the Alberta Canada Mission in 1996, then in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1998. They developed a love for serving others and had many wonderful experiences with the Native American people. Lastly, they served in the Bishop's storehouse in Logan, Utah. LaRon Falslev passed away on April 20, 2022. He was 93 years old and was a lifelong resident of Benson, Utah.
